India without VITO

After establishment of UNO world has become a system and nations (states) are unable to enjoy the uncontrollable power. Of course permanent membership in Security Council and VITO are synonyms of extreme power to ensure national interest. Since 1945 some countries are continuously making efforts to ensure a permanent seat in Security Council. India, Brazil, Japan and Germany (G-4) are top competitors for this. But this is a very though mission. It is not only because of the behavior of present P5s but also because of Coffee Club. G-4 also has become a field of competition. Relations between the states are changing so quickly, so no one can ensure for the support in this mission.

Now, the question is that if India cannot ensure herself about VITO then how long we will wait for the full the support. It looks as though we are saying that VITO is something that contains the extreme power. We must say that VITO has so much power but this power is not endless. Even if we don’t have this power, we cannot bare stalemate in our foreign policy.

Degradation of Foreign Policy:-

In present we don’t have VITO but we have so much to influence world. We have wasted our precious 70 years in this. Our relations with our neighbors have polluted because we are using Western and American perspective for our foreign policy. Our policy makers are not thinking about our national interests but they are just trying to make USA happy by applying there view in our policy. Here are some examples of the degradation of our policy-

Ø  Investment in Afghanistan is the current example of this. Of course Afghanistan can be used as a tool against Pakistan and to our presence there gives a strong message that we are fighting against terrorism. It also proves that we are sympathized with all the victims of terrorism. But we can’t forget that invest in Afghanistan is just like pouring butter in a utensil without bottom. There is also an another angel that USA is not in the situation to stay in the circumstances like Afghanistan so she wants to draw back from here and now her target is to indulge India in this ditch.

Ø  Iran is another example, when USA banned Iran and warned that if any country tried to make relationships with Iran then she had to pay for it. And our government reduced the quantity of Crude Oil import. This made our historical relations hearse.

Here we must make clear that USA is a superpower and no country can ignore her perspective on any matter but India is an independent country. What about our own interests? We are one of the most respected countries for independent foreign policy as we initiated NAM. If USA is a super power then it never means that we do whatever she wants and devote our national interest. Today USA says that if India wants to become a super power then she has to behave like this and our government made fuss of all the national interests and indulged in ditch of Afghanistan.

We must keep in mind that made USA happy and our neighbors annoyed is very dangerous thing. No matter how powerful USA is, she can’t save us from our neighbors. At the time of Bangladesh War it had proved in the reference of Pakistan. USA’s policy of ‘use and throw’ is also made this argument more powerful.

Problems with Neighbors:-

Today there is not a single neighbor who is happy with us. Pakistan and PRC are misleading others by the dilemma of Big Brother and they are also behaving like this. PRC is also making a String of Pearls. Sri Lanka is annoyed because we left her when she was fighting against Prabhakaran and voted against her in the case of humiliation of human rights. Su Ki was not supported so effectively when she was fighting against the rebels. Sheikh Hasina was also an example like this, when she was fighting against the army rule and then against the extremists she was not supported. Our government was also proved weak in front of West Bengal. Nepal is just at the edge that anytime she can openly support PRC. Bhutan is also feeling that India is using her with total selfishness. We can’t deny that if Doklam Crisis remained for some more time then may be Bhutan could support PRC because she can get more from PRC.

Solution of this difficult circumstance:-

India has to make her decision keeping national interests in mind. We have to keep our neighbors in belief that we are their well wishers not a big brother. Propaganda of Pakistan in very dangerous thing we cannot ignore this. In the Middle- East there are conflicts between liberal and extreme Muslims. India has to keep her policy balanced without any kind of pressure.

Of course we cannot make our all the neighbors and others happy but I think we are enough powerful to fulfill our interests and make an independent foreign policy. Gujral theory was a very significant plan in case of SAARC. Chabhar Port has become very useful for this and now we should start this.

We have made BRICS and SAARC for the cooperation with some significant and neighboring countries. I think we must focus on these organizations in spite of ‘El Dorado’ like VITO and devote our national interests in order to keep happy P5s.
