Difference between Direct and Representative Democracy

Difference between direct and representative democracy is based on the method for decision making system in democracy. This difference is made by way opted by the representatives. There are some major and some minor differences between direct and representative democracy.

Ø  First is that in direct democracy decision is made by all the voters directly, it means all the voters are representatives. Elections are only to make the decision by majority or the way that they have (states). But if we talk about representative democracy there are representatives of voters to make decisions. It means votes will be casted only to choose representative.
Ø  Secondly direct democracy is very puzzling system for general people. Every one cannot able to make their decisions or we can say every one doesn’t have enough sense to decide wrong and right for their own. In representative democracy, representatives are usually specialized person in decision making. Also a difference is that in second situations you can take help from bureaucrat.
Ø  Direct democracy is good for small states in all senses (population, area, etc.).Representative democracy is not good for large states. It becomes a puzzle for them.

Switzerland is the best example of direct democracy (especially some cantons Appenzell Innerrhoden and Glarus). Representative democracy can be seen in every modern democratic state alongside India, USA, UK, etc
